Why Earn a Master’s in Career and Technical Education at Indiana State?

The Master's in Career and Technical Education (CTE) is an excellent professional development opportunity for individuals working in career technical education, including secondary school CTE faculty, two-year technical school faculty, CTE administrators, and trainers in industry.

Tailor the Program to Meet Your Career Goals

The CTE Master's program enables you to build on previous training and work experience to become a leader and influencer in career education and workforce development. The program also provides excellent preparation for additional graduate study, including doctoral programs.

Working with an advisor, you will select an area of specialization that enables you to tailor the program to meet your career and educational goals. The program must be completed within seven years; however, most students complete the program in far less time.

Note: The Career and Technical Education program has as its purpose the continued development of the professional and technical knowledge of persons teaching in the discipline. Individuals enrolled in this degree program teach in secondary schools, community colleges, and career centers. This is not an initial teacher licensure program. However, applicants who have passed the State-approved teacher licensing tests may be eligible for teacher licensure through the Indiana Department of Education.

Learn from Our Excellent Faculty

The Applied Engineering and Technology Management Department offers small class sizes, allowing for individual attention from professors. Courses are taught by faculty with experience in teaching and applied research in the subject areas and industry work, contributing to the quality of laboratory-based instruction.

What You’ll Learn in the Career and Technical Education Program

Coursework includes a required core, a research methods course, and an area of specialization that enables you to tailor the program to meet your career and educational goals. Areas of specialization may be selected within the Bailey College of Engineering and Technology as well as other disciplines within the University.

Students may transfer up to six credits of previously earned graduate-level coursework into the program if the credit supports the student's area of study.
